A 61 year old women has tragically died in an Iron Lung after the power went out. Dianne Odell, 61 years old, had been confined to the 7 and a half foot machine since she was diagnosed with polio 58 years ago at the age of 3.

The family which lives in Jackson Tennessee could not get the backup generator working after storms apparently knocked power out for the surrounding area. Odell who had been confined to the iron lung, and had been cared for by her brother-in-law and other family members could not overcome the outage since she has been weaker over the last several weeks. Iron lungs were first used to sustain life in 1928, and were largely replaced by positive-pressure airway ventilators in the late 1950s. A spinal deformity from the polio made it impossible for Odell to wear a more modern, portable breathing apparatus, so she continued to use the older machine. It is not exactly known how many polio survivors still use these iron lungs, but Odell was believed to have used it for longer than most. Below is an image of such a machine:

Google doodle (logo) is all laser today to celebrate the demonstration of first working laser on 16th May 1960 by Theodore Maiman. The term “laser” is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

A typical laser emits light in a narrow, low-divergence monochromatic (single-coloured, if the laser is operating in the visible spectrum), beam with a well-defined wavelength.

While this was technical jargon, Laser technology is increasing becoming part of our life. Just watched DVD of favorite movie? Well, you just used laser technology. Optical storage devices such as compact disc and DVD players are based on laser functionality.

JAIPUR: Five major blasts occurred in the crowded markets in the walled city area in Jaipur. The blasts occurred at 7:35 pm on Tuesday evening.

Six persons have reportedly died and several got injured in the blasts.

The blasts took place in Tripolia Bazar where a Hanuman temple drew a large number of devotees, Manas Chowk, Badi Choupal, Choti Choupal and Johari Bazar.

The blasts set off panic and near-stampede situation at all the five congested localities. One blast went off in a car while another at a shop. Injured have been taken to hospitals.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday night strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Jaipur and appealed for calm.

Singh, who was briefed on the serial blasts that left several dead and scores injured, deplored the attack on innocent people.

He assured all support to the Rajasthan government and assistance to the affected families, PM`s media adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement.

Prime Minister also spoke to Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje about the blasts and assured all support to the state government.

Sonia condemns Jaipur blasts

Congress President Sonia Gandhi condemned the serial blasts in Jaipur, calling them a crime against humanity.

Condoling the tragic loss of innocent lives in the serial blasts, Gandhi called the terror attacks a "crime against humanity".

She appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in this "grave" hour.

Blasts an act of terror: Jaiswal

Terming the Jaipur blasts a big conspiracy, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal said tonight the Centre is ready to cooperate with the Rajasthan government in the investigation and relief work. He acknowledged that the blasts were ‘an act of terror.’

Speaking to the media persons hours after the blast he said that a central investigation team can be sent to Rajasthan. “We are ready to coordinate the rescue efforts. This is a big incident.”

Jaiswal was unable to confirm any casualty figures but quoted the Rajasthan govt as saying the casualty was atleast 10 and the number could go up.

“We can’t comment about whodunit until investigation. The serial blasts were well planned. Rajasthan govt is capable of maintaining security, we keep sending advisories but the states need to be on alert,” he said. But, he added, with a population of 1 billion one can never ensure fool-proof security.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil cut short his visit to North East visit to return to New Delhi. He has also condemned the blasts.

“I will not tolerate such acts of terrorism and would like to visit the spot as soon as possible”, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia said.

The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) is hsowing the SSLC results on websites from 5 pm. The results will be available tomorrow (05 May, Monday) at all high schools and junior colleges across the State of Karnataka.

Besides, the results can also be known by telephone, both mobile and landline, from Sunday evening onwards. However, the DDPI offices will announce them on Monday by 9 am.

BEOs will have to collect the SSLC results from their respective DDPI offices and to give them to schools/colleges for announcing, before 2 pm. The same will be available in Bangalore Citywith their respective Block Educational Offices by 10 am on Monday.

Chelsea will play Manchester United in the Champions League final after two goals from Didier Drogba and a penalty from a grieving Frank Lampard gave them a 3-2 second leg semi-final win over Liverpool on Wednesday.

The two English sides, meeting in a Champions League semi-final for the third time in four years, had drawn 1-1 at Anfield in last week's first leg.

On Wednesday Drogba fired a low shot into the net from an acute angle in the 33rd minute but Liverpool's Fernando Torres equalised in the 64th and the game went into extra time.

Lampard, whose mother died last week, wept after slotting home a 98th minute spot kick. Drogba made it 3-1 on the night with a clinical finish in the 105th minute before substitute Ryan Babel pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 117th.

Chelsea struck first today with Drogba netting in the first half but Liverpool drew level in the second through Fernando Torres to force extra time with the overall result tied 2-all and 1-all on the away goals rule.

Chelsea looked to have scored midway through the first half of extra time but it was ruled out for offside. Just a minute later, however, they received a penalty when Michael Ballack was fouled and Frank Lampard scored from the spot.

The victory looked to be wrapped up when Drogba scored his second before the extra-time halftime break for a 3-1 lead and 4-2 overall lead.

However, Liverpool kept the game alive with four minutes remaining when Ryan Babel scored with a long-range strike meaning the Reds needed only one more goal to draw and advance under the away goals rule but Chelsea held out for the victory.

The final will be played in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on May 21.

India's ace spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has been in the news for all wrong reasons, yet again did it. Harbhajan allegedly slapped Sreesanth after the IPL match between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians at Mohali. Sreesanth was seen crying after the match. He was consoled by the teammates. Kings XI skipper Yuvraj Singh and coach Tom Moody confirmed the news. Moody went to the extent of saying that Harbhajan's behavior is intolerable.

Latest reports suggest that Harbhajan later went to the dressing room and apologised to Sreesanth. But Harbhajan is unlikely to escape the BCCI hammer. A short clip from the 1992 film Maya Memsaab was brought to my attention last week. The clip shows a very saucy scene from king Khan’s early movie where he is performing his sexiest scenes ever in hot lovemaking with actress Deepa Sahi, including the ever-elusive screen kisses, and even offering a glimpse of the badshah’s naked derrier.

The 57 seconds long clip is currently being shown on the video sharing website YouTube and has the cheeky words “he (Shah Rukh) was young and needed the money” at the start of it. The clip has already had 2,30,000 viewings and climbing. I’m sure Shah Rukh doesn’t know about it otherwise by now he would have had it removed.

John Marzano - John Marzano Dead - Former major leaguer dies at 45 in Philadelphia

Former major leaguer John Marzano died Saturday after falling down a flight of stairs at his home. He was 45.

The cause of his death was not immediately clear, police said.

Marzano was from Philadelphia and had been working for Major League Baseball's Web site, where he co-hosted a show on weekday mornings.

"John was a beloved member of our team, a personable, terrific friend to all with whom he worked," said Bob Bowman, chief executive officer of MLB Advanced Media. "He was an engaging, informed interviewer. His energy, knowledge of the game and comedic touch produced admirable results. We miss him dearly already."

In a statement announcing his death, MLB said Marzano had fallen. MLB.com will establish an internship program in Marzano's name, the release said.

Before joining MLB's Web site, Marzano was a baseball analyst on Comcast SportsNet for the station's Philadelphia Phillies' postgame shows. He had also appeared regularly on WIP-AM.

"The Phillies family is saddened by the news of John Marzano's untimely death," Phillies president David Montgomery said in a statement. "John was an endeared member of the Philadelphia sports community who not only represented our city well as both an athlete and a broadcaster, but also had incredible passion for the games we play. Our deepest condolences go out to the Marzano family at this difficult time."

A graduate of Temple, Marzano earned a spot as a catcher on the 1984 U.S. Olympic team that included future major league stars Mark McGwire, Barry Larkin and Will Clark. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 1984 amateur draft.

Marzano played 10 seasons in the big leagues for the Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners before retiring in 1998. He also played in the minors for the Phillies and the Cleveland Indians.

Overall, Marzano batted .241 with 11 homers and 72 RBIs in 794 at-bats in 301 games.

Marzano was popular in Seattle for his altercation with New York Yankees outfielder Paul O'Neill during a game in 1996. The two traded punches at home plate after O'Neill took exception to a knockdown pitch by Tim Davis.

Marzano is survived by his wife, Terri, daughters Dominique and Danielle, and two grandchildren.

The First Half | Rating 3.75/5

The movie starts off with the voice over of Mahesh Babu, he calls himself a friend of Sanjay[Pawan Kalyan] PAWAN KALYAN is introduced as an alcoholic and a person obsessed with education. Kamalini Mukherjee is introduced as PAWAN KALYAN’s lover, we are showed a brief scene with Prakash Raj, who is Kamalani Mukherjee’s father. In an almost unbelievable and comical fashion, the scene is carried forward into PAWAN KALYAN attending Kamalani Mukherjee’s wedding with another person. 52 weeks later, Ileana and Parvathi Melton enter his life in the form of an introduction fight to establish PAWAN KALYAN’s skills.

Fun and frolic follow for the next few minutes; Ileana wins PAWAN KALYAN over with the help of hilarious Sunil. In the mean while we are introduced to Mukesh Rushi and his trusted ally Tanikela Bharani. A notorious factionist that lives on settlements is Mukesh Rishi. MUKESH RISHI runs all his operations from within the Jail. He is further established in a beautifully choreographed land takeover fight scene.

Comedy works well between PAWAN KALYAN and Ileana, Mukesh Rishi is established in the side track, songs work well and everything seems to be going amazingly well, the anticipation of something big looming between PAWAN KALYAN and MUKESH RISHI builds expectation.

Mukesh Rishi spots Pawan Kalyan for the first time in the movie; he wants to grab him but fails. Pawan Kalyan is totally unaware of all this happening around him. Mukesh Rishi plots an execution but calls it off at the last moment stating, PAWAN KALYAN needs to suffer before this death. From here on it’s a cat and mouse game, or should we just say it’s a cat’s game as Pawan Kalyan is forced to encounter near misses of death. In one such encounter, Ali is grabbed from the group of PAWAN KALYAN’s friends and a fight follows, this is where PAWAN KALYAN reveals in an emotional state that he has had a hard childhood, which included poverty. However this is where Pawan Kalyan is unable to do justice to the dialogues, his histrionics do not suit these kind of emotional dialogues, also the build up to the scene being a very weak one does not help. This in turn leaves us at a very weak interval, which if not for the last five minutes of the first half was an amazing first part of the movie.

Second half starts off with PAWAN KALYAN narrating a flashback about his miserable childhood and young life. This includes a brief stint with the naxalites, this is where the story starts falling off one bit at a time. The reason for PAWAN KALYAN joining the naxals is justified, but the reason why he leaves them is totally illogical, what with Mahesh Babu’s voice over telling us that he had been promoted to a higher cadre in the group.

Groups of fighters start mobbing PAWAN KALYAN from nowhere and he just dismisses them, In the meanwhile the love drama takes a few twists, Ileana’s father being Prakash Raj the police officer who changed (assumed) PAWAN KALYAN.

When the Villain of the movie is showed in a massive powerful position, you would assume an excellent scene or two will follow between them. But nothing like that happens in the entirety of the movie, including the climax.

Songs

You and I, My heart is beating and Gallo Telinattundhe are amazingly picturised, the title track, Jennifer Lopez and Chalore Chalore are pitifully picturised with no build up to the songs at all. They just seem they popped out of nowhere.

Pawan Kalyan

Pawan Kalyan is first rate and his comedy worked amazingly well, his fights have been choreographed well and his dance is crisp, but I must say we wanted Pawan Kalyan to dance for the song “Jalsa”rather than walk or beat up the villains.

Trivikram Sreenivas

Trivikram Srenivas is confused, the story made me wonder if this was a love story, a factionist story or a Naxalite story. A bit more clarity would have been better received by the audience. Trivikram has absolutely wonderful songs and an amazingly talented star cast which were at this disposal. Parvathi Melton was wasted. Comedy worked well, including Brahmanandam.
Overall

Overall Jalsa is ok, definitely your money’s worth, with amazing care taken to every detail but don’t think too hard about logic or story.

Pawan Kalyan's film Jalsa which was going to be released on March 28th was a much awaited film of this year.

Pawan Kalyan's (Sanjay) love fails with Kamalinee Mukherji and didnt get her, so Sanjay hates woman and love. He turns to a guru, who in always preaching to his followers not to fall in love. He also hates the people in love. Meanwhile, Ileana enters the life of Pawan as Bhagyamathi. He madly falls for her .However, Parvathi Melton who is a good friend of Ileana is against love and tells her not to fall into the love trap and in accordance creates hurdles in their love life.
Mukesh rishi who plays the father characters of Ileana gets miffed with Pawan. So pawan enters the house of Ileana and wins every family members heart and that is show in a different way.

The much awaited film from Pawan Kalyan is keep you belted on the seat.
The scenes are dramatically pictured. Like the scene in Car. Pawan Kalyan is brilliant actor, so as mukesh rishi. You can watch this movie for Ileana & Kamalinee Mukherji.

All and all this is good moview for Pawan Kalyan fans.
